That didn’t stop The Crown from dominating the acting categories with four nods for its stars Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville, and Salim Daw. The royal drama is also in the running for four additional craft awards, including best costumes and special effects.
As for Black Mirror, its episode “Demon 79” impressed the BAFTA TV voters and scored a total of seven nods. It’s one of the contenders for the best limited drama series, while its star Anjana Vasan scored a nod for the best leading actress.
The 2024 British Academy Television Awards are coming back to the Royal Festival Hall in London on May 12. BBC One will broadcast the ceremony, and they’re yet to announce this year’s host.

]]>The post “Dune: Part Two” Rides Its Way to a $178.5 Million Worldwide Opening appeared first on Entertainment For Us.
]]>Dune: Part Two hit the theatres on March 1, after its release date was pushed in the face of labor disputes in Hollywood last year. With $81.5 million grossed domestically and an additional $97 million in other territories, it topped the box office with a massive $178.5 million worldwide opening.
Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Jeff Goldstein, described Dune: Part Two as a cultural moment and praised it for managing to capture the marketplace all around the globe.
“Audiences are responding to the combination of Denis Villeneuve’s ability to tell a story in an extraordinary way and the extraordinary cast. This is a moment for Timothée Chalamet,” Goldstein told Variety.
Dune: Part Two is a huge hit on premium format screens, such as IMAX, and Villeneuve’s decision to film it with IMAX cameras certainly paid off. IMAX screenings accounted for $18.5 million of domestic ticket sales, representing 23% of the market share, and the company’s CEO Rich Gelfond said “The only reason it wasn’t higher is we ran out of seats,” adding they’ve been sold out for weeks in advance.

]]>Alcock will play the Woman of Steel after crushing her audition and defeating the likes of Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly to win this role. James Gunn confirmed her casting on social media and said he’s incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU after being blown away by her audition and screen tests.
Gunn previously discussed the new version of this character during DC’s presentation in early 2023 and described her as a very different type of Supergirl.
“We see the difference between Superman […} versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock chip-off of Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl,” said Gunn at the time.
It remains unknown if Alcock will make her debut in Superman: Legacy alongside David Corenswet, but she’s expected to appear in another DC-based project before leading her standalone feature Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

]]>Barbie is the highest-grossing film of 2023, so including it is a no-brainer, but that’s not the reason why it made it to our list. Greta Gerwig’s brilliant script gave us countless quotable moments that will help this film become a staple of modern popular culture.
Every year, we get at least one raunchy teen comedy with cult classic potential, and Bottoms is destined to follow in the footsteps of Superbad and Booksmart.
Emerald Fennell took us on one wild ride with her latest film Saltburn, and its fans won’t be able to resist returning to this sprawling English countryside estate time and time again.
Poor Things is a major Oscar contender this awards season, but it’s also one of the wildest things we’ve seen all year, and Bella Baxter’s incredible journey will be impossible to forget.
A24 has given us some pretty amazing horror films, but Talk To Me is their highest-grossing one yet. It centers on a group of friends using a mysterious hand to conjure spirits, and its sequel is already in development.

]]>The post Nicholas Hoult is Joining “Superman: Legacy” as Main Villain Lex Luthor appeared first on Entertainment For Us.
]]>Warner Bros. waited for the SAG-AFTRA strike to end before casting the film’s main villain, and Hoult emerged as the front-runner for the role. The Emmy-nominated actor will have big shoes to fill because this iconic character had previously been portrayed by the likes of Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey, and Jesse Eisenberg.
Hoult received award recognition for his role in the historical satire The Great, which was shockingly canceled by Hulu earlier this year. He’s also attached to Robert Eggers’s Nosferatu, Justin Kurzel’s The Order, Clint Eastwood’s Juror No. 2, and The Garfield Movie.
David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan have been cast as Superman/Clark Kent and Lois Lane in Superman: Legacy. earlier this year, and they’ll be joined by Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer.
Superman: Legacy is expected to hit the theaters on July 11, 2025, and James Gunn recently said that the labor disputes in Hollywood won’t impact its release date.

]]>During a recent appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Best of Today podcast, explained why The Great Escaper felt like the fitting final act of his career. He said it’s unlikely he’ll be offered any leading roles at the age of 90, so it felt good to go out on a high, playing the lead in an acclaimed movie that received incredible reviews.
Caine’s journey in the world of acting began during the 1950s, and he established himself as one of the biggest stars of his generation, going down in history as one of the rare actors to score Academy Award nods for acting in five different decades. He also won Oscars, both for the best supporting actor, for his roles in Hannah and Her Sisters and The Cider House Rules.
Caine’s career experienced a notable resurgence during the 2000s after he crossed paths with the director Christopher Nolan. He cemented his legacy by starring in several of his acclaimed films, including The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, and Interstellar.

]]>Poor Things offers a feminist take on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and it centers on a young Victorian woman Bella (Emma Stone) trying to forge her own path after being brought back to life by a mysterious scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). The film also stars Mark Ruffalo, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, Jerrod Carmichael, and Margaret Qualley.
Poor Things was met with rave reviews after its world premiere in Venice, and it defeated the likes of Michael Mann’s Ferrari, David Fincher’s The Killer, and Sofia Copolla’s Priscilla to win the festival’s most prestigious award—the Golden Lion. Lanthimos dedicated the victory to Stone and said this film is all her, both front and behind the camera.
When it comes to acting accolades, Memory’s Peter Sarsgaard and Priscilla’s star Cailee Spaeny collected the Volpi Cup for their respective performances. The list of major winners also included Evil Does Not Exist (Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize), Green Border (Special Jury Prize), and Io Capitano (Silver Lion Best Director for Matteo Garrone).

]]>The post Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn” to Open the 2023 London Film Festival appeared first on Entertainment For Us.
]]>Described as a beautifully wicked tale of privilege and desire, Saltburn centers on a college student Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan), struggling to adjust at Oxford University before becoming infatuated with a charismatic classmate Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), who invites him to meet spend summer with his aristocratic but eccentric family at their sprawling estate.
Opening the BFI London Film Festival is the realization of a life-long dream for the Oscar-winning filmmaker Emerald Fennell, who fantasized about this moment since her youth.
“It is a festival that inspired me so much growing up, one that I followed excitedly from my bedroom on the other side of London. It feels extra-special that Saltburn, this very British tale of excess, is able to make its international debut at the wonderful BFI,” said Fennell in a press release.
In addition to Elordi and Keoghan, Saltburn also stars Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver, Archie Madekwe, and Carey Mulligan. It will open the BFI London Film Festival on October 4, before hitting the theatres on November 24 and receiving a wide release on December 1.

]]>The acclaimed comedy Little Miss Sunshine was brimming with talent, but Arkin stole the show and won an Academy Award for best-supporting actor for his hilarious turn as foul-mouthed grandpa Edwin Hoover.
Arkin never had any trouble shining in supporting roles, but this 60s comedy about the grounding of the Soviet submarine during the Cold War showed the world he’s a brilliant leading man and earned him his first Oscar nod.
Ben Affleck’s best picture winner Argo earned Arkin another Oscar nod, and he brought some much-needed comedic relief to this otherwise grim thriller.
Arkin brilliantly carried the adaptation of Joseph Heller’s iconic book on his shoulders and gave us a masterclass in acting as Captain Yossarian, a bombardier haunted by the absurdity and hypocrisy of war.
Netflix comedy The Kominski Method served as somewhat of Arkin’s swan song, and he earned two Emmy nods for the portrayal of the cynical best friend of Michael Douglas’s titular character.

]]>Anatomy of a Fall gripped the Cannes audience with its thrilling story about a German writer who finds herself in the middle of an intense murder trial after her husband is found dead in the snow below their secluded chalet in the French Alps.
Triet joins the exclusive company of Jane Campion and Julia Ducournau as the third woman to ever claim this prestigious award, and she dedicated it to all the young directors trying to make an impact today.
“We must give them the space I occupied 15 years ago in a less hostile world where it was still possible to make mistakes and start again,” said Triet in her acceptance speech.
The Cannes Film Festival returned to the French Riviera between May 16-27 and introduced us to some of the year’s most anticipated films. Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest won the prestigious Grand Prix, while Aki Kaurismäki’s Fallen Leaves walked away with the Jury Prize.

When it comes to acting accolades, Memory’s Peter Sarsgaard and Priscilla’s star Cailee Spaeny collected the Volpi Cup for their respective performances.
