Christopher Nolan has given us many spectacular films over the years, and his next project is shaping up to be the most epic one yet. The Oscar-winning director is getting ready to bring Homer’s ancient Greek epic The Odyssey to the silver screen, using the power of a brand-new IMAX technology.
The Odyssey will mark Nolan’s second collaboration with Universal Pictures following the success of Oppenheimer, and the studio released an official statement dropping hints about this project. They announced it would bring Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens and described it as “a mythic action epic shot across the world.”
Homer’s The Odyssey takes place in the aftermath of the Trojan War and sees the titular hero trying to find his way back home to Ithaca. He faces many obstacles on his decade-long journey, encountering such iconic mythological characters and creatures as the Cyclops, witch-goddess Circe, and the Sirens.
Christopher Nolan’s take on The Odyssey will be released by Universal on July 17, 2026. Nolan is busy rounding out the cast of this project, and several A-list stars already agreed to hop on board, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron.
