Emilia Pérez dominated several ceremonies since the start of the awards season, and it will enter the Oscars as the top contender. The 2025 Academy Awards nominations have finally been announced on Thursday morning, and the buzzy crime musical topped the list of nominees with a total of 13 nods.
Emilia Pérez will be in the running in most of the main categories at the Academy Awards, starting with the coveted best picture prize. Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance, and Wicked are also vying for the top award at the Oscars.
In addition to the best picture, the hit crime musical is also competing in several more major categories, such as best director (Jacques Audiard), best leading actress (Karla Sofía Gascón), and best supporting actress (Zoe Saldaña).
The hit musical Wicked and the period drama The Brutalist will also enter the Oscars as the top contenders after scoring 10 nods each. They’re closely followed by the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and the Papal mystery thriller Conclave with eight nominations each.
The 2025 Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 2, with Conan O’Brien hosting the ceremony for the first time.
