]]>National Anthem is a story of a middle-class Midwestern family tumbling down the ladder of American society, periodically bursting into song as they struggle to catch themselves.
“National Anthem is a family drama with deep resonant things to say about the fragility of our country, our world, and our planet. Plus…it’s a musical! In Scott’s genius hands this results in a hugely original, intense, funny and moving piece of writing,” said Sarah Barnett, president of AMC Networks’ Entertainment Group and AMC Studios. “We’re so happy to work with Scott as he brings this unique story to life and absolutely delighted to continue our creative partnership with Mark, who we have been so lucky to work with on some of the most critically acclaimed series over the last decade.”
The cabler gave the series an initial eight-episode order.

]]>Variety reports that Riverdale’s Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and the show’s writers Tessa Leigh Williams and James DeWille co-created a new series, which has just been given a pilot order by HBO’s forthcoming streaming service.
The newest addition to the gothic horror genre, titled The Shelley Society, follows a young Mary Shelley and a band of her fellow Romantics as they battle supernatural threats.
Co-creators Aguirre-Sacasa, Williams and DeWille will also serve as executive producers with Aguirre-Sacasa serving as showrunner as well.
The Shelley Society marks Aguirre-Sacasa first project under his new overall deal with WBTV.
HBO Max is expected to launch in the spring of 2020.

The drama inspired by Moore’s musical childhood revolves around a family from small-town Florida who must adapt to their extraordinary new reality when their teenage daughter goes from aspiring singer to pop superstar practically overnight, per Deadline.
Moore’s musical career kicked off in 1999 with the release of her first single “Candy” from her debut studio album So Real. She recently received an Emmy nomination for her role as Rebecca Pearson on This Is Us.

Servant follows a “Philadelphia couple in mourning after an unspeakable tragedy creates a rift in their marriage and opens the door for a mysterious force to enter their home.”
“I’ve been very quiet about what I have been working on with Apple TV+ but it has been one of the most incredible creative experiences,” Shyamalan wrote on Twitter. “We’re so excited to show it to you.”
Apple TV+ debuts November 1. A Night with M. Night Introducing Servant on Apple TV+ is slated for October 3.

]]>The comedian and the 1980s music icon have joined forces and are set to star in a new comedy series for Netflix.
Lynch confirmed the new to reporters after her win at the Creative Arts Emmys.
“I pitched a show to Netflix and they bought it,” she told reporters after winning the Emmy for guest actress in a comedy. ” I don’t know if I can even tell you, but it’s with Cyndi Lauper, so there! We’ll see.”
“We’re our age, I’m almost 60, she’s 65, and we’re looking for our next act without having had husbands or children,” she added. “There will be two other folks in it who haven’t been cast yet. It’s kind of a Golden Girls for today.”
But this isn’t the first time the project has been teased. The Ellen Show creator, Carol Leifer took to social media in July revealing that she’s indeed developing a new series with the dynamic duo.
“It’s official, heading out next with a new half-hour comedy, starring Jane Lynch and Cyndi Lauper,” she wrote on Facebook. “A writer’s dream to work with these two legends. Can’t wait to see where we land…”

]]>The Black Panther stars’ project has received a straight-to-series order at HBO Max. The forthcoming streaming service has given the limited series a 10-episode order.
“Americanah has sparked a cultural phenomenon and is revered by fans around the world. It has affected me deeply as one of the most moving, socially relevant and romantic stories of our time,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max. “With exceptional talent like Lupita and Danai in front of and behind the camera, this series will give viewers a uniquely heartfelt and unforgettable experience.”
Penning the adaption is Gurira. She will also take on show-running for the very first time. Nyong’o is set to star in what will be her first role in an American TV series and both will executive produce.
Americanah joins HBO Max’s roster of scripted originals that also includes a Gossip Girl reboot, The Flight Attendant, Tokyo Vice, and Love Life.

]]>HBO Max is bringing some magic with a new series based on Alice Hoffman’s novels Rules of Magic and Practical Magic.
The 1998 film, based on the latter and starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, became an instant cult classic.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Rules of Magic, follows two sisters “who feel the isolation of being witches cursed with the inability to find love.”
Set in the 1960s, the eccentric aunts Franny and Jet (played by Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest in the film) become “feared and revered, [while] their brother Vincent leaves an unexpected legacy.”
The Rules of Magic pilot order joins two more original series ordered by the new streaming service — Generation and Red Bird Lane. Also coming to HBO Max are binge worthy titles such as Friends, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Pretty Little Liars.
HBO Max is set to launch in spring 2020.

Disney+ announced the series onstage at D23, the company’s biennial convention, this Friday at Anaheim. “It feels so nice to say,” Ewan McGregor said to expo-goers.
“Internally, we’ve wanted this for so long, but we know how much the fans want it too,” Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy told Entertainment Weekly. “And we know we have to get it right.”
She continued: “McGregor wanted to come back, and he’s so excited to play the character of Obi-Wan again. He really does embody who Obi-Wan is. And to think that Alec Guinness was really his mentor and now he’s stepping into those shoes for this series, it’s really exciting.”
Shooting is planned for 2020. No launch date for the spinoff series has been announced.

]]>The Austrian-based crime thriller is based on the best-selling Liebermann novels by Frank Tallis. It follows Max Liebermann (Matthew Beard) who is “a brilliant young English doctor, studying under psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud. He meets Oskar Rheinhardt (Juergen Maurer), an Austrian detective and the pair go on to tackle some of Vienna’s most mysterious and deadly cases.”
Vienna Blood is produced by Endor Productions, a Red Arrow Studios company, and MR Film.
“Vienna Blood is a unique, ambitious and compelling crime drama, set in glorious Vienna during an extraordinary period in its history,” said Sue Deeks, BBC’s head acquisitions.
Bo Stehmeier, president of Red Arrow Studios International, said: “With its combination of gripping storylines, compelling cast and talented creative team, I’m sure the series will be a hit with viewers in the UK.”
The series also stars Conleth Hill, Charlene McKenna, Amelia Bullmore, Jessica De Gouw, and Luise Von Finckh.

]]>Multiple outlets confirm that the network has picked up the cop drama titled Tommy for the 2019-2020 season. The Sopranos alum will star as the first female chief of police of Los Angeles.
The series hails from Homicide creator Paul Attanasio, Amblin Television and CBS TV Studios.
Here is the official logline: “When a former high-ranking NYPD officer becomes the first female chief of police for Los Angeles, she uses her unflinching honesty and hardball tactics to navigate the social, political, and national security issues that converge with enforcing the law.”
Tommy will also star Michael Chernus, Adelaide Clemens, David Fierro, Russell G. Jones, Olivia Lucy Phillip, and Joseph Lyle Taylor.
