Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira to Star in New HBO Max Series

Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira’s team up for a new series that will adapt the novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Americanah.

The Black Panther stars’ project has received a straight-to-series order at HBO Max. The forthcoming streaming service has given the limited series a 10-episode order. 

Americanah has sparked a cultural phenomenon and is revered by fans around the world. It has affected me deeply as one of the most moving, socially relevant and romantic stories of our time,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max. “With exceptional talent like Lupita and Danai in front of and behind the camera, this series will give viewers a uniquely heartfelt and unforgettable experience.”

Penning the adaption is Gurira. She will also take on show-running for the very first time. Nyong’o is set to star in what will be her first role in an American TV series and both will executive produce.

Americanah joins HBO Max’s roster of scripted originals that also includes a Gossip Girl reboot, The Flight Attendant, Tokyo Vice, and Love Life.
