]]>The final season of The Crown is coming into this year’s BAFTA TV Awards with eight nominations. Despite topping the list of nominees, this series shockingly didn’t make it to the best drama field, losing its spot to The Gold, Happy Valley, Slow Horses, and Top Boy.
That didn’t stop The Crown from dominating the acting categories with four nods for its stars Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville, and Salim Daw. The royal drama is also in the running for four additional craft awards, including best costumes and special effects.
As for Black Mirror, its episode “Demon 79” impressed the BAFTA TV voters and scored a total of seven nods. It’s one of the contenders for the best limited drama series, while its star Anjana Vasan scored a nod for the best leading actress.
The 2024 British Academy Television Awards are coming back to the Royal Festival Hall in London on May 12. BBC One will broadcast the ceremony, and they’re yet to announce this year’s host.

]]>The post “Black Mirror” Season 5: Surprising Yet Impressively Believable appeared first on Entertainment For Us.
]]>The season highlight is arguably “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too,” which explores teen pop culture via the figure of happy-go-lucky Ashley O.
We soon learn that Ashley is drugged by her aunt to keep her smiling and creating the music they want. As the episode progresses, we discover the lengths that those controlling her are willing to go to in order to capitalize on her smiling image.
Miley Cyrus gave a surprising performance, in which she had us deeply empathizing with the trapped woman being forced to be someone she is not.
She then had us laughing and rooting for a malfunctioned robot with the “real” Ashley’s personality, and we were rooting for the uncanny bot every step of the way. As far as entertainment goes, this absurd dystopian adventure is the pinnacle.
Episode two is generally being considered as the weakest of the three, although it definitely has something to offer. “Smithereens” focuses on a hostage situation in which the kidnapper is desperate to get hold of the
Smithereens company founder, Billy Bauer.
We quickly sympathize with the man holding a Smithereens intern captive, given that he clearly does not want to be doing what he is doing at all.
Overall, the episode is less of a sci-fi adventure and more of a social reflection on our own addiction to social media.
Finally, the season opener “Sniping Vipers” was a big surprise. Starring Marvel’s Anthony Mackie, the episode explores the possibility of alternative sexual relations through virtual reality. It caught us off guard but raised some interesting questions about gender fluidity and modern relationships.
After Danny and Karl’s online personas share a passionate kiss, Karl jokes that the pair are “gay now.” Danny denies it, but later accepts that the pair do have undeniable chemistry — it’s just that the chemistry is confined to the game.
The episode thus explores a new set of forms love can take and how the modern relationship has the potential to be flexible enough to accommodate.
Overall, season 5 was tame in comparison to some of the previous seasons, but it was also highly believable and moving. Charlie Brooker once again explores our own social reality through a series of futuristic scenarios, only this time, the events were new takes on things that are more or less already happening.

]]>The post Check Out The First Trailer For “Black Mirror” Season 5 appeared first on Entertainment For Us.
]]>The season will comprise of three episodes and will tell new dystopian tales of the technological future. The best part is that we don’t have to wait until Christmas, the episodes will land on Netflix on June 5.
What’s more, Miley Cyrus will be featuring in one of these glorious feature-length episodes. Marvel’s Anthony Mackie will also make an appearance along with Fleabag’s Andrew Scott.
The season looks like it will return to the season one style of fewer episodes which are meticulously crafted. In the later seasons, Charlie Brooker toys with the idea of consciousness and what that means but now, it seems that he has returned to the “aaahhh technology is scary” vibe, which is more entertaining and less confusing.
You can watch the first teaser here:
Earlier this year, Brooker revealed that he thinks people take the show too seriously. He said: “I think it’s often easy for people to overlook the dark humor that is in Black Mirror.
“Certainly when the ideas come about, it’s an idea that makes me laugh. But then we play it really straight. Having said that, I’m proud to be a morose individual.”
Catch the new season on June 5.

]]>The post Some of the Biggest TV Character Twists appeared first on Entertainment For Us.
]]>What was superb about this character twist was that it’s the reverse of what we usually expect. Instead of it being revealed that Abigail is indeed a ghost, or Luke’s imaginary friend, it is a revealed in the shocking moment of her death that she has been alive the whole time.
The moment it is revealed that Violet has been dead since her “failed” suicide attempt at the start of the season is shocking every time. Her own shock when she sees her body makes the whole thing even more unsettling.
Throughout the whole episode, we believe that Kenny is a teen guilty of something we’ve all done. It’s horrible watching him jump through hoops to protect his reputation, and we are rooting for him the entire time. Of course, that all changes when we realize what he has really done.
When Spike is introduced in the second season, he’s the baddest vampire on the block. In season four, he gets a chip put in his head that stops him from harming any living things. Then in season five, he realizes he is in love with Buffy – the vampire slayer he spent the whole of season two plotting to kill.
In season one, Lorna seems to be one of the sanest, sweetest prisoners at Litchfield. In her backstory episode, we’re expecting her to be imprisoned unfairly like some of the other characters. This couldn’t be further from the truth. As it turns out, Lorna is one of the biggest pyschos in there, only now we love her even more.

]]>At the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards, Brooker told Press Association: “I think it’s often easy for people to overlook the dark humor that is in Black Mirror.”
He then explained that the ideas which make it into the show are more often or not the ones that make him laugh. When the choose-your-own-adventure episode “Bandersnatch” came up, he revealed that he had to learn code in order to create the episode.
“It was like trying to solve a puzzle. It wasn’t a normal writing experience. I literally had to learn to code to write the story treatment,” he said.
“It was a very different process. We knew it was experimental. I was very keen that we try out things in the episode that maybe weren’t even apparent to viewers.”
There is unfortunately still no news on when season 5 will be released but is in the works and is due for release in 2019.

]]>Tuckersoft have posters for a game called Metl Hedd with a robot creature that looks almost identical to the ones that take over the world in season four’s “Metal Head.” Could the episode be a game? Do we even know what’s real anymore?
Remember that crazy episode where people rate everyone else for everything they do, and we all freaked out because that’s kind of where real life is headed? The episode name is the same as the game title Colin Ritman is working on.
That flowchart symbol that flashes on screen and around Stefan’s room after he murders his dad is the same as the one that appears in “White Bear.” The symbol also appears in “Play Test” and seems to connect the episode via the theme of being powerless to your own decisions. Hmmm…
The building where Stefan has his therapy is called “Saint Juniper’s,” which is the building that runs the San Junipero program and permits Rolo Hayne’s horrendous experiments in “Black Museum.” Coincidentally, Dr Haynes is also the name of Stefan’s therapist. Ha, coincidentally. As if.
All four episodes are references in a newspaper insert revealing that Stefan has killed his father.
In fact, if you watch closely, you’ll notice that almost every episode is given a subtle nod one way or another. The pollinator drones in “Hated in the Nation”, the political bear in “The Waldo Moment” and the “groundbreaking memory recall device” in “Crocodile” are also given a mention.
It really is all connected.

]]>The post “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” Review: One Hell of a Ride appeared first on Entertainment For Us.
]]>But how do you review something when you know the version you watched will inevitably be different from the version that you, who is reading this, watched?
For me, the answer was to keep re-watching until I’d experienced just about every ending on offer ranging from a bad game review to abrupt suicide or double murder. Still, it is the experience you choose the first time watching which will be the best, because when you go in blind, the surprises that lie ahead are fresh and exciting.
To begin with, I’ll start by saying that the context and setting of the episode was brilliantly done. The depiction of Croydon in the ’80s was authentic and the characters were colorful and interesting. Being able to choose basic elements such as what music Stephan listens to was fun and satisfying. Although such decisions didn’t majorly alter the narrative, there were minor changes to the story which you notice if you choose to re-watch.
Stylistically, the movie was superb. The LSD montage was wonderfully done and there was a surreal, other-worldly feel throughout.
Now for the choose-your-own-adventure element. If you were worried that the decision-making process would jar the viewing process, this couldn’t be further from the truth. The decisions appear at the bottom of the scene and do not interrupt the narrative whatsoever. They are seamlessly added and are often based on questions posed by other characters. The scene smoothly continues based on what you choose.
When major decisions arise — such as whether to kill dad or spill tea on your computer — the decision seems to reveal more about our own character than Stefan’s. This is where things get crazy meta. When I chose the darker path, where Stefan ends up chopping up his dad’s body, I couldn’t help but feel like Netflix was watching and judging my darker preference when it comes to entertainment.
It would be impossible to review every ending, but I will mention my favorite. When Stefan is sitting at his computer, suspecting that someone is influencing his decisions, he asks for a sign. When “Netflix” appears as an option on the screen, you can’t help but laugh out loud. Trying to explain to someone in the 80s what a “21st century streaming platform” is, is no easy task. Things get even more meta when, after Stefan murders his dad, we are taken to the future where we see Colin Ritman’s daughter trying to reboot Bandersnatch for younger audiences. It’s ridiculous, amusing and sort of terrifying.
Overall, it’s hard to tell whether the concept Bandersnatch has employed is revolutionary or just a gimmick. Regardless, the film is one hell of a ride and will undoubtedly entertain, whichever grim path you decide to go down.

]]>The post “Black Mirror” Episode “Bandersnatch” is Netflix’s First “Choose Your Own Adventure” Movie appeared first on Entertainment For Us.
]]>While watching the film, viewers are instructed to keep their mouse or remote at hand. The reason is that the viewer is in charge of the outcome of the story based on the decisions made. At regular intervals, options appear on the screen and the path you choose will determine how the adventure pans out.
The adventure follows a 19-year-old videogame developer named Stefan who is adapting a choose-your-own-adventure book into a digital game. The twisted sci-fi feature steps back into 1984 and looks as dark and disturbing as we have come to expect from Charlie Brooker’s hit series.
The decisions range from what cereal Stefan eats in the morning to bigger decisions which will completely alter the narrative. According to Variety, there are a trillion possible outcomes, making Bandersnatch the perfect episode for a re-watch.
