Sir Ken Dodd Dead at 90

Ken Dodd passed away today at age 90 in Liverpool. He died in the very same house that he was born in, having never lived anywhere else.

Dodd was one of the most popular comedians of his time and was the creator of “Diddy Men.” His career in show businesses lasted an impressive 63 years. In that time he had 19 UK Top 40 hits and told 1500 jokes in a world record joke-telling session. He was famous for his very long stand-up shows, which he only stopped doing last year. After his last tour in 2017, he was Knighted, earning the title of “Sir Ken Dodd.”

Celebrities and fans alike are sending their condolences over the internet and to his family in Liverpool His wife, Anne Jones, has said:

“I’ve been overwhelmed by the love and affection which I’ve already received from dear friends and the public.”

Sir Paul McCartney is just one of the celebrities to tribute the comedian, having tweeted a picture of Ken Dodd with The Beatles in their hay day. Flags are flying around Liverpool as a mark of respect for the man who spent his life there. The Town Hall, Central Library, and Cunrad Building are just some of the buildings where Liverpudlians can see the flags flying.
