According to Deadline, Christopher Abbott has signed to play the lead role in in the Catch-22 series adaptation at Hulu.

Written by Luke Davies and David Michod, and based on the seminal Joseph Heller novel, Catch-22 hails from Anonymous Content and Paramount Television. Clooney will play Colonel Cathcart and will direct the series alongside Grant Heslov.

The story is set in Italy during World War 2 and is the story of the incomparable dodger Yossarian (Abbott), a worker for the US Airforce who is furious as thousands of people as thousands of people whom he has never met are trying to kill him. His real problem is not the enemy but his own army which keeps on increasing the number of millions that men must fly to complete their service. If Yossarian makes an attempt to avoid his military assignment, he will be in violation of catch-22. However, a request to be removed from duty is evidence of sanity and makes him not eligible to be relieved from duty.

Abbott is probably best known for his role as Charlie on HBO’s comedy Girls. He recently starred in Sebastián Silva’s Tyrel and is coming off a series regular role as Mason Tannetti in The Sinner.

No premiere date has been set yet for the Catch-22 Hulu series.
