“Peter Rabbit” Will Return for a Sequel in 2020

Sony Pictures have scheduled Peter Rabbit 2 to be released February 7th, 2020 in the US.

The feature was Sony Pictures’ biggest non-Bond film in the UK and held the top spot in the box office for four weeks in a row. Will Gluck will be returning to write and direct the sequel.

The movie will be based on Beatrix Potter’s stories of Peter Rabbit but will be an original story by Rob Liber and Will Gluck. Rose Bryne, Thomas McGregor, Domhall Gleeson, Sam Neil, Margot Robbie, James Cordon, Elizaeth Debicki and Daisy Ridley starred in the first movie.

The movie received mixed reviews. While some people found it endearing, others thought the CGI animals were more off-putting than cute and cuddly. The Guardian opened their review harshly:

“Prepare to enter a valley both uncanny and unfunny with this tiresome film, whose director and co-writer, Will Gluck, appears to have responded to an urgent question echoing inside his own head: ‘When, oh when will someone take the twee merchandisable ickiness of Beatrix Potter’s great creation Peter Rabbit and turn it into a sassy live-action animation like Babe or Alvin and the Chipmunks?'”

Still, the movie fared well with family audiences and if Sony Pictures have faith in the sequel, it can’t be too dire. I guess we’ll have to wait 2 years to find out.
