“What We Do in the Shadows” Show Coming to FX

Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, and Jonny Brugh in "What We Do in the Shadows"

The 2014 mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows is being adapted into a TV series.

FX have ordered ten episodes for the new comedy show, which will be co-created by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, who starred, wrote and directed the film. The movie has become something of a cult classic and is a mockumentary-style feature which follows the lives of vampires who have been roommates for hundreds of years.

In the same vein, the series will follow three vampires living in New York and will star Matt Beryy, Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetriou and Harvey Gullien.

FX co-president Nick Grad said:

“Their feature version was a hilarious, fresh take on the mundanity of everyday life that even immortals must face. We are thankful to them, Paul Simms and Scott Rudin, and this amazing cast for taking us deeper into the shadows with this show.”

In addition to the show, Clement and Waititi are also working on a sequel to the film. The working title is We’re Wolves and will be based on a group of werewolves rather than vampires. On top of the show and the movie, the duo are also working on a new spinoff show called Wellington Paranormal, which will follow Karen and Mike, the police officers who appeared in the film.
