After getting her big break with House of the Dragon, Milly Alcock is ready to lead another high-profile project. The Australian actress has been cast as the next Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe.

Alcock will play the Woman of Steel after crushing her audition and defeating the likes of Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly to win this role. James Gunn confirmed her casting on social media and said he’s incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU after being blown away by her audition and screen tests.

Gunn previously discussed the new version of this character during DC’s presentation in early 2023 and described her as a very different type of Supergirl.

“We see the difference between Superman […} versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock chip-off of Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl,” said Gunn at the time.

It remains unknown if Alcock will make her debut in Superman: Legacy alongside David Corenswet, but she’s expected to appear in another DC-based project before leading her standalone feature Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
