The first season of Big Little Lies ended in a big way.

Celeste’s (Nicole Kidman) abusive husband (Alexander Skarsgård) met his demise, which has resulted in the characters played by Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz now being known as the infamous “Monterey Five” in the forthcoming season.

Perry’s fatal fall meant that Skarsgård will not be returning to the HBO show for its second season, surely?

Well, not according to his on-screen wife.

At a panel discussion for the season 2 premiere, Kidman appeared to have let out a spoiler, which caused her co-star and fellow executive producer, Witherspoon, to motion she stop speaking.

“[Alexander] was the most incredible acting partner, and then he came back for season 2,” said the Aquaman star. “He has a little bit of a part in the sense of… the basis of… okay, I’ll be quiet. He didn’t abandon us. We’ll put it that way.”

Hmmm…

What we do know for certain is that Meryl Streep has joined the cast as Perry’s mother, who wants answers about her son’s death.

The entire cast gushed about having the multiple-Oscar winner onboard, with James Tupper going so far as saying, “It was like meeting the Queen of England.”

Big Little Lies returns June 9th.
