This week, another trailer was released for the much anticipated Deadpool 2. After a series of comical but uninformative teaser trailers, the most recent trailer gives us a real taste of what the movie will be like. We are introduced to several new characters, including the new villain, Cable.

For a moment there, it looked like we were finally being given a serious trailer but Deadpool intercepts Cable’s backstory with a mocking action sequence using toy action figures. This gives us reason to assume that the new movie will follow in the tradition of the debut, using a mix of slapstick, self-deprecating and referential humor. Deadpool even makes a meta-joke about Lee’s writing at the end of the trailer.

Fans are excited to be introduced to Cable, who starred in a comic series and has crossed paths with Deadpool in several other comics. The pair has a relationship which is difficult to pin down, mixing friendship with rivalry – a theme which is explored in the X-men movies between Xavier and Magneto. Unlike the hyper-intelligent duo, Deadpool and Cable have a hilarious dynamic, naturally fuelled by Deadpool’s relentless wisecracks and banter.

The movie is set to be released on May 16th this year.
