Netflix has given us one of their biggest global hits with Squid Game, and its final chapter is on the horizon. The streaming giant dropped a teaser to announce the release date of Season 2, while also announcing that this Korean drama would end its run with Season 3.
The second season of Squid Game will take place three years after the events of the first, and it will see Seong Gi-hun aka Player 456 using his newfound fortune to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport.
Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed the show will end in Season 3, which will chronicle the fierce clash between Seong Gi-hun and the Front Man.
“I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story. We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride. I hope you’re excited for what’s to come,” wrote Hwang Dong-hyuk in a statement.
Lee Jung-jae is returning in Season 2 alongside Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo, and they’ll be joined by Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.
Season 2 of Squid Game will premiere on Netflix on December 26, followed by a third and final season in 2025.
