Julia Roberts Won’t Return for Season 2 of Amazon’s “Homecoming”

Julia Roberts in "Homecoming"

Amazon’s acclaimed psychological thriller Homecoming was the first lead role in a TV project in Julia Roberts’ accomplished career. It might also be her last one, since Roberts won’t be returning as Heidi Bergman for season two.

According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s sources, Julia Roberts is definitely done with starring in the show, but she will remain involved as an executive producer. It remains unclear whether more cast members will make an exit before the second season starts filming.

Homecoming, which was based on the podcast of the same name created by Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg, premiered on November 2nd, 2018, on Amazon Video, and quickly captured the attention of both the audience and the critics.

The story of the first season revolved around Heidi Bergman, a former worker at Homecoming Transitional Support Center, a facility that helps soldiers transition to civilian life. After leaving the center, Bergman starts building a new life, but her past comes to haunt her soon enough.

When Amazon picked up the project in 2017, the company immediately ordered two seasons of the show. Still, Julia Roberts has been refusing to comment whether she will appear in season two, and now we know why.

It is expected that the new episodes will move away from the original story and the source material, but we could see some other cast members making their return including Stephan James, Bobby Cannavale, Shea Whigham, Alex Karpovsky and Sissy Spacek.
