Jon Favreau, the director of Iron Man 2 and The Jungle Book, which won an academy award for its visual effects, will be heavily involved in the creation of Disney’s new Star Wars TV series. It has been confirmed that he will be part of the writing team as well as an executive producer for the show.

Favreau is a reported Star Wars fan (although to be fair, who isn’t?) and will be appearing in the upcoming movie Solo: A Star Wars Story. He also appeared in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and is remembered for his role as Monica’s millionaire boyfriend in Season 3 of Friends.

On finding out that he would be part of the writing team, Favreau said: “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”

Information about the new series is being kept under wraps and we do not yet know the release date, although it looks like it might be a while yet. We do know that the show will appear on Disney’s upcoming streaming service, which is anticipated to launch by the end of 2019.
