We don’t usually report on Love Island breakups (partly because we don’t have nearly enough writers to keep up with all that gossip), but like everyone else who watched the show, we had a soft spot for Jack and Dani.

The Love Island winners won over everyone’s heart and made us believe for a moment that true love really can exist. Now though, they have joined the rest of the islanders in the breakup category and have ensured that not a single couple from the series survived a year together.

“There is no easy way to say this and it isn’t going to be an easy time for me but me and Dani are not in a relationship anymore,” Love Island winner Jack Fincham wrote to fans. “We will always care a lot for each other and I mean that from the bottom of my heart and I wish her nothing but happiness.

“We have some amazing memories together and have been through a lot but sometimes things just aren’t meant to be and we really did try and make it work but unfortunately didn’t and that is life.”

He added: “That’s all I have to say, a break up is hard enough as it is for both of us let alone in the public eye so I hope everyone is considerate and understands this.”

So yeah, true love is dead. Sorry everyone.
