Fox Releases Trailer for upcoming J.R.R Tolkien Biopic

Nicholas Hoult and Lily Collins in "Tolkien"

After a short teaser released in early February, FOX Searchlight now presented a full trailer that gives us a better look at their upcoming release Tolkien.

The movie, which is based on the life of J.R.R. Tolkien, will cover the author’s formative years and explore the inspiration behind The Lord of the Rings and the fantasy world of Middle Earth. It is directed by Dome Karukoski and starring Nicholas Hoult in the titular role.

The recently released trailer promises that we will get a detailed biopic since it shows J. R. R. Tolkien meeting his future wife Edith Bratt (Lily Collins), forming a “fellowship” with a group of friends at school, and even his time as a soldier in World War I.

The news about J.R.R. Tolkien biopic first appeared in 2013, when FOX Searchlight started developing a movie based on David Gleeson’s script. The project, however, didn’t take off until July 2017 when Karukoski signed on to direct the feature. Hoult and Collins joined the cast shortly after, and the principal photography took place between October and December of the same year.

Tolkien is scheduled for release on May 10, 2019.
