Disney is Already Plotting a “Cruella” Sequel

Hold your Dalmatians because the adventures of Disney’s iconic villain Cruella de Vil are far from over. Shortly after the live-action Cruella movie starring Emma Stone hit the theaters and became a box office hit, Disney bosses already started plotting its sequel.

Disney representatives have expressed content with Cruella’s performance, both with the critics, moviegoers, and Disney+ subscribers, and they’re looking forward to another chapter of this story.

“We are very pleased with Cruella’s box office success, in conjunction with its strong Disney+ Premier Access performance to date… We look forward to a long run as audiences continue to enjoy this fantastic film,” said a Disney spokesperson.

Director Craig Gillespie and writer Tony McNamara are expected to come back for the sequel, but nothing is official just yet because the sequel is still in the early stages of development.

Cruella draws inspiration from Dodie Smith’s novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians and tells the origin story of the titular villain. In addition to Emma Stone, the film also stars Emma Thompson, Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Mark Strong. It was released simultaneously on Disney+ and in US theaters on May 28th.
