Chris Evans has confirmed that he has officially hung up his shield for good.

The actor has served as Captain America since 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. He has since played the superhero in two more eponymous Marvel features as well as in all three released Avengers movies.

“Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.”

Fans responded kindly to the news, thanking Evans for his commitment to the role.

One user tweeted: “Not a perfect soldier, but a good man. The best part of my heart. Thank you Cap.”

Another said: “It’s been an honor having you as our captain and it always will be. We love you.”
