The upcoming animated Scooby-Doo movie is slowly getting its cast together. According to The Hollywood Reporter, SNL and The Last Man on Earth star Will Forte is joining the project as voice of Shaggy, while Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) will voice Velma. The franchise veteran Frank Welker will voice Scooby-Doo, while Tracy Morgan (The Last O.G.) was cast as Captain Caveman.

Updates on the other additions to the cast should follow soon since there are still two members of Mystery Inc. gang, Daphne and Fred, left to find their voice. There is a possibility that Frank Welker steps in to voice Fred since he has been voicing the character across several medias since 1969.

This yet-untitled animated Scooby-Doo movie will be directed by animation veteran Tony Cervone and is scheduled for release on May 2020. THR reports that the story of the movie “sees the Mystery Inc. gang join forces with other heroes of the Hanna-Barbera universe to save the world from Dick Dastardly and his evil plans.”

The movie is set to be the first theatrical release of an animated Scooby-Doo project. It will also be the first Scooby-Doo movie, not counting the animated direct-to-video films, since 2004’s Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
