David Heyman confirms that the new Willy Wonka movie will be a prequel.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that a new Willy Wonka movie is in the works. Warner Bros. have teamed with director Paul King (Paddington) and Harry Potter producer David Heyman to offer a new, untold story about the quirky chocolatier.

There has been much speculation into what the movie will be about and when in the Rahl Dahl timeline it will take place, but Heyman has now revealed that it will be a prequel. The film will delve into the Willy Wonka we already know and love and will shed light on how he came to run the chocolate factory.

“We are still trying to figure out how to tell that story, what the story is. It’s a prequel, it’s not a sequel,” he told Collider. “What makes Willy—when we find him at the chocolate factory doing the golden ticket, where is he before that? What leads him to that place where he’s locked himself away?… It’s how does he get there. So we’re playing around with that.”

There is no scheduled release date for the movie in sight, but watch this space.
