More programming news from Quibi!

The new mobile-based entertainment platform made up of shorter videos aka “quick bite content,” has just added a Varsity Blues update to its programming roster ahead of its Spring 2020 launch.

The reimagined 1999 film hails from the original film’s producer Mike Tollin and Peter Guber’s MSM and Paramount Television.

The original film followed Dawson’s Creek alum James Van Der Beek as Jonathan Moxon, a quarterback of a Texas high school football team of misfits, who struggle to balance their lives with the pressures of the game all the while having to deal with their hostile and abusive coach played by Jon Voight.

“For all those who cheered Mox’s refrain, ‘I don’t want your life,’ as well as all those who never heard of the West Canaan Coyotes, we’re thrilled to bring Varsity Blues to Quibi and into the 21st century!” Mike Tollin, the executive producer, said in a statement.

Directing the film’s “modern take” for Quibi is Anne Fletcher, from a script by Tripper Clancy.

No casting has been announced yet.
