We will have to wait a bit longer for Top Gun: Maverick, a sequel to 1986’s blockbuster Top Gun, since Paramount decided to push back the release of this Tom Cruise-starred action for one year.

The studio announced that the movie is now scheduled for release on June 26, 2020, instead of July 12, 2019. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Top Gun: Maverick is delayed so the actors would have more time for flight training.

After years of speculations, Top Gun sequel was officially confirmed in June 2017, with Tom Cruise returning as a Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. It was later confirmed that Val Kilmer would also reprise his role of Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, while Whiplash star Miles Teller was cast as the son of the late Nick “Goose” Bradshaw, Bradley Bradshaw. The movie will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, who worked with Cruise on 2013 sci-fi thriller Oblivion.

Besides tweaking release date for Top Gun: Maverick, Paramount also revealed that sequel to John Krasinski’s horror A Quiet Place would hit the theaters on May 15, 2020. Some other upcoming movies for 2019 also received slight changes, with Sonic the Hedgehog moved from November 15 to November 8, while untitled Terminator sequel is now coming on November 15 instead of November 22.
