Showtime’s comedy Shameless is about to lose one of its biggest stars. Emmy Rossum, who plays the role of Fiona Gallagher, announced that she would leave Shameless after season nine wraps up. The 31-year-old actress revealed her decision via a letter posted on her Facebook page.

“I know you will continue on without me, for now,” she wrote. “There is much more Gallagher story to be told. I will always be rooting for my family. Try not to think of me as gone, just think of me as moving down the block.”

Gary Levine, Showtime’s head of programming, confirmed Rossum’s exit to Variety.

“We were saddened when Emmy Rossum let us know that the upcoming ninth season of ‘Shameless’ would be her last,” – said Levine in a statement. “But we are filled with an overwhelming sense of joy and gratitude for Emmy’s inspired work on our series, of course in front of the camera but also behind it.”

Adapted from a British series of the same name, Shameless premiered in 2011. The show revolves around Frank Gallagher, a single father who is trying to raise his six children the best way he can. Shameless received critical acclaim during its run and consistently draw strong ratings for the network.

Season nine of the show is set to premiere on September 9, 2018.
