“The Nevers” Adds 12 to Cast

Joss Whedon’s HBO sci-fi drama rounds out its ensemble cast. 

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator and The Avengers writer/director has added Olivia Williams (Miss Austen Regrets), James Norton (Grantchester), Tom Riley (Dark Heart), Ann Skelly (Death and Nightingales), Ben Chaplin (The Children Act), Pip Torrens (The Crown), Zackary Momoh (Seven Seconds), Amy Manson (Torchwood), Nick Frost (Fighting With My Family), Rochelle Neil (Death in Paradise), Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark), and Denis O’Hare (This Is Us).

They join previously announced lead Laura Donnelly. 

According to Deadline, The Nevers is a science fiction drama “about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world.”

The series is co-written by Whedon with Jane Espenson and Doug Petrie. He will also serve as showrunner and will executive produce with Espenson, Petrie, and Bernie Caulfield.

Since Joss tweeted about us this week, this seems like the right time to talk about one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. Last fall I got my first TV writing job, and of all things it was writing for THE NEVERS, the sci-fi Victorian epic created by Joss Whedon, coming to HBO in the near future. I got to work with my creative heroes, Joss and Jane Espenson, and a beautiful, diverse writers room where I was one of three brown women (!!), and where going to work every day was a joy and an adventure in the best way. I got to write 2 episodes, one of them with the amazing wonderful genius person and dear friend @lauriepenny. We wrapped the room for Season 1 two months ago and I still miss it, and I am so excited to see the show with everyone else when it comes out. It’s going to be EVERYTHING I love (Victorian aesthetics, women fighters, sci fi magic, charismatic villains, daring heroes, delicious couples to ship) and I still can’t believe I got to be a part of it. #TheNevers
