“The Crown” Season 3 Will Debut in 2019

Olivia Colman in "The Crown"

Season 3 of The Crown to hit Netflix in the second half of 2019.

It has been an awfully long wait for The Crown fans, but according to Deadline, the wait is almost over.

The outlet reports that in a letter from Netflix to investors it was revealed that the acclaimed royal drama will return in the second half of 2019. This also makes sense as the series’ first two seasons debuted in the winter — the first in November 2016 and the second in December 2017.

Should this be the case, by the time the drama finally makes its return, fans would have waited more than 18 months in between seasons.

Season 3 of The Crown saw some major recasting, which also contributed to the extra long wait. Claire Foy who played Queen Elizabeth II in the first two seasons was replaced by Oscar-winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite). Matt Smith (Prince Philip), Vanessa Kirby (Princess Margaret) and Matthew Goode (Anthony Armstrong-Jones) are also out with Tobias Menzies, Helena Bonham Carter and Ben Daniels taking over as Prince Phillip, Princess Margaret, and Lord Snowden, respectively.

Netflix has yet to officially confirm the series’ return date.
