The Cast of “Supernatural” on the Decision to End the Show

Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, and Jared Padalecki in "Supernatural"

Fans of The CW’s Supernatural recently received the shocking news that their favorite television show will end after season 15. The announcement left us wondering what lies behind this surprising decision, as this popular dark fantasy series still enjoyed respectable ratings even after 1 5 years on TV. As it turns out, it was a “community decision” to end the show.

Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki made an appearance at the Las Vegas convention dedicated to the show over the weekend and clarified the circumstances revolving around the decision to wrap up the series.

“We wanted to communicate to you guys that this was a community decision,” – Padalecki told the audience. “The network and the studio didn’t say, ‘get out of here, you guys are done.”

“It wasn’t an easy decision,” explained Ackles. “It was months and months, if not years, of discussion between he and I, between the rest of the cast, between the crew, between our writers, between our producers, between the studio, between the network. Nobody wanted to see this show fizzle out.”

“I think that it was everyone wanting to do the biggest service to the show that we could by going out strong,” he added. “It just seemed like the writing was kind of on the wall as to when that was happening. Everybody kind of felt that it was coming soon, and so it was just taking that leap of faith of going like, ‘Well guys, let’s get out the paint and paint that finish line because what we’ve accomplished is unlike any other.'”

The 15th and final season of Supernatural will have 20 episodes and it is expected to premiere in October.
