The 2018 movie Venom, which stars Tom Hardy in the lead role, was one of those films that divided critics and audiences.

While critics gave it mostly bad reviews, even calling it “the worst Marvel-derived origin story ever,” moviegoers rushed to the theaters to watch it. Venom ended up making $855 million at the box office and got propelled to No.5 on the list of highest grossing movies of 2018.

All of this caught the attention of the crew behind the YouTube channel Screen Junkies, who decided to use Venom as the topic of the latest entry in their hugely popular series Honest Trailers.

The Venom honest trailer mostly serves as an entertaining and funny look at the movie which has plenty of both good and bad aspects. It praises and criticizes Hardy’s performances, makes fun of romantic scenes and much more.

With that being said, there are several solid arguments made in the trailer, including the one that says Venom should be an R-rated movie given the history of the character and the dark tone of its comics. On the other hand, the movie was an absolute hit, so PG-13 was definitely the right choice from a financial standpoint.

One thing is sure, however: Whether you liked the film or not, you’ll love its honest trailer. Check it out below.

Most reviews are telling us that Venom is no good. Magazines like Variety and The Hollywood Reporter are calling it “forgettable,” “unimaginative,” and “generically plotted.” Is that the truth? Well, yes and no.

Even though critics are trashing Venom, the audience is still buying tickets and going to see this Tom Hardy-starred feature. The reason for that is good word of mouth, since casual moviegoers are not nitpicking Venom or trying hard to find its flaws. They just want to have great fun when they go to the cinema, and this movie provides precisely that.

Don’t get us wrong. Venom is filled with flaws and question marks, starting from the thin plot to an unconvincing performance by some members of the cast. The first part of the movie is unnecessarily stretched, and it looks like someone realized this at one point and then tried to speed up the story all of a sudden. This compensation caused a bit of an unnatural transition which probably won’t bother lot of people.

For people who don’t need complex stories, perfect directing or iconic performances from actors to have a satisfying movie experience, Venom is a must-watch film. Despite being far from perfect, the movie is simply fun. It has great visual effects, tons of action and really smart humor. Also, Tom Hardy delivers an inspired performance as Eddie Brock, especially when he is leading talks in his head with symbiote Venom.

We recommend that you don’t pay much attention to the plot details and question how something happened since you’ll discover a lot of holes. Instead, lean back, put your brain to rest and just get immersed in the experience that Venom offers. This way you’ll get your money’s worth and much more while looking forward to the planned sequels.

The latest Spider-Man spin-off had everyone wrongfully excited because the critics have come to the conclusion that it is “uninspired” and “dull.”

Digital Spy harshly said:

“It takes a long time for things to really get going and for Venom to appear in the black, gooey flesh. At that point, what plodded along as a dour science fiction thriller switches to an odd mix of horror and buddy comedy. But even that can’t stick, switching between serious, head-devouring action and silly comedy at whiplash speed. The tone of this movie is all over the place, and it’s the inconsistencies rather than the absence of Tom Holland in a starring role that are Venom‘s real problem.”

Variety compared the movie to The Mummy, which received an embarrassing 15% on Rotten Tomatoes. They said:

“Venom is a textbook case of a comic-book film that’s unexciting in its ho-hum competence, and even its visual-effects bravura. Make no mistake: The effects can be dazzling. The alien matter splattering itself around like random tentacled liquid, the way Venom cross-breeds Spider-Man’s skyscraper-hopping agility with the Hulk’s dynamo destructiveness — it’s all diverting eye candy. But to what end? This gateway into the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters (get ready: there are 90!) may not sputter as badly as Tom Cruise’s The Mummy, but it could turn out to be a similar case of a franchise kickoff that doesn’t fully attain franchise liftoff.”

The Guardian also gave the feature a pitiful one star and described it as “uninspired” and “riddled with the poison of dullness”.

Venom is out at cinemas now but by the sounds of it, it’s not even worth the ticket price.

With the summer of blockbuster slowly fading in the sunset, it now looks like we have seen all the great movies 2018 had to offer. Well, think again, since there are plenty of films that will be released this year and are worth your attention. You can check out the best of them on our list of great movies still to come in 2018.

The Predator (September 14, 2018)

The fourth installment in the Predator film series promises to be a real action spectacle. Shane Black writing and directing is already a big draw, but the trailer is what really has us eagerly waiting for The Predator.

Smallfoot (September 28, 2018)

This entry on our list of great movies still to come in 2018 promises to be fun for the entire family featuring a talented voice cast that includes Channing Tatum, James Corden, Zendaya, Common, and LeBron James. Smallfoot tells the story about a Yeti who believes that the mythological creatures known as Smalfoots (humans) really exist.

Venom (October 5, 2018)

Starring Tom Hardy, Venom focuses on the well-known comic antihero/villain of the same name, featured in Spider-Man comics. The movie is envisioned as a spin-off from the Spider-Man film franchise.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (16 November 2018)

Waiting for a sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is keeping the Harry Potter fans on the edge of their seats. The wait is now almost over; it looks like it could be well worth it.

Aquaman (December 14, 2018)

We end our list of great movies still to come in 2018 with probably the most anticipated one. Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, Aquaman should be a comeback of DC movies after 2017’s Justice League flopped. According to the trailer and reports, there is a chance that Aquaman could resurrect the enthusiasm of the fans from movies that belong to the DC universe, but we will have to wait and see.

The new Venom trailer has just been released by Sony and quite frankly, it looks awesome.

Tom Hardy stars as Eddie Brock, who looks like something of a local do-gooder. His life is thrown into total disequilibrium when a symbiote mixes with his own DNA and he learns that a violent and powerful entity now shares his body.

The trailer looks as if it will do Venom more justice than Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 3, where the entity’s backstory is not explained and the character is lost among two other story lines. The upcoming movie will not split Venom’s screen time with Green Goblin and Sand Man, but appears to focus almost solely on Eddie Brock and his transformation.

The movie is associated with Marvel but does not cross over with the Marvel cinematic universe. Venom is a stark contrast to the colorful and classic superheroes of Marvel and is instead something of an anti-hero, more comparable to the dark and complex characters of the DC universe, despite its origin in the Marvel comics.

The trailer shows Eddie Brock investigating a suspicious company for a report. Something happens to cause a symbiote to unite with his human DNA and suddenly he is hearing voices – well, one voice. When Eddie discovers his new and dangerous powers, he is not curious and excited by them like Peter Parker when he transforms into Spider-Man. On the contrary, the trailer shows him looking frightened and struggling as he quickly learns that his body is no longer just his own. He must either fight the dark forces inside him to maintain control, or find a way to work with them.

Venom will premiere at cinemas on October 5th.

We love our comic book heroes, but there is something even more alluring about the supervillains. Perhaps it is the fact they have cooler costumes or perhaps there is something darkly relatable and appealing about these rebellious bad guys. Either way, here are ten of our favorites.

10. Harley Quinn (Batman)

A villain who does whatever the hell she feels like. We loved Margot Robbie’s portrayal in Suicide Squad.

9. Ozymandis (The Watchmen)

DC has a tendency to blur the lines between black and white/good and evil. Ozymandis epitomizes this in his character.

8. Loki (Thor)

He’s been around in mythology for centuries but we love Tom Hiddleston’s punky and rightly mischievous version of Loki.

7. Thanos (Guardians of The Galaxy)

We haven’t seen much of him yet, but we can’t wait to see him attempt to destroy half the universe in Avengers: Infinity War. Big talk from a pretty big guy.

6. Venom (Spider-Man)

Everyone has a dark side, even Spider-Man.

5. Mystique (X-Men)

She alternates between sides but Mystique’s shapeshifting powers make her a powerful ally.

4. Magneto (X-Men)

Magneto is a great villain and a hero from where he’s standing.

3. Catwoman (Batman)

She’s cool, she’s sexy and she doesn’t follow the rules.

2. Hela (Thor)

We loved Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. Her costume was amazing and she effortlessly crushed Thor’s hammer.

1. The Joker (Batman)

“Whatever doesn’t kill you, simply makes you stranger…” An utter nutter who scarily sometimes makes worrying sense… in an insane kind of way.
