A new trailer for the Dan Scanlon-directed Onward animated feature has been unveiled, showing us there’s no magic like family.

The animated tale follows two teenage elf brothers (Chris Pratt and Tom Holland) who set out on a journey to bring their dad back to life.

“We’ve only got 24 hours to bring back the rest of dad. We’re going on a quest,” says Barley (Pratt) as he and his brother Ian (Holland) hop in a van.

The new clip also features Octavia Spencer’s Manticore, a once “fearless” magical creature that’s part lion, part bat, and part scorpion, turned flustered restaurant owner.  

Mel Rodriguez, Lena Waithe, Ali Wong, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus also voice-star in the film.

Get ready to explore some of life’s biggest questions with Pixar’s upcoming animated film from Inside Out‘s Pete Docter. 

The animated existential adventure feature follows a middle school music teacher who dreams of being a jazz performer. The teacher, Joe Gardner is voiced by Jamie Foxx. 

“We only have a short time on this planet,” Foxx’s character says in the new trailer. “You want to become the person you were born to be. Don’t waste your time on all the junk of life. Spend your precious hours doing what will bring out the real you, the brilliant passionate you that’s willing to contribute something meaningful to this world.”

The voice cast also includes Questlove, Phylicia Rashad, and Daveed Diggs.

Soul hits theaters June 19, 2020.

The trailer, which dropped Thursday, opens with showing the once magical world that the characters live in. “In times of old, the world was full of wonder and magic,” says a narrator. “But times change.” The trailer then cuts to modern day and brothers Ian (Holland) and Barley (Pratt).

The new footage also introduces the voices of Octavia Spencer and Julia Louis-Dreyfus who star as Manticore, whom the brothers visit to retrieve an ancient map and mom Laurel respectively. 

Onward hits theaters on March 6, 2020.

Soul, the film that “will take you on a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions” will star Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey as the leads.

They will be joined by Daveed Diggs, Phylicia Rashad, and Questlove, who are also set to lend their voices to the original animated film. 

Soul is Pete Docter’s fourth directed feature for Pixar, following Monsters, Inc., Up, and Inside Out. 

“I’m directing a film that asks the ultimate question that we’ve all thought about at one time or another: Why am I here? Where did I come from? And what am I here for?” Docter revealed. “But who would make a cartoon about that? Metaphysics? We’re calling it Soul.”

After Docter made the announcement at D23 on Saturday, Fey told expo-goers: “I’m so excited to be onstage with all these people and to be a part of this movie. Wait ’til you hear Jamie Foxx in this movie, guys. It’s really good. I think you’re going to like it. I think it’s real emotional. But also like, there’s nothing better than a Pixar movie, right?”

Soul arrives in theaters on June 19th, 2020.

On one hand, our superhero archetype Bob is struggling with the challenges of being a stay-at-home dad. His daughter Violet is suffering her first teen crush, Dash needs help with his homework and never mind the terrible two’s, baby Jack-Jack’s new powers are more than a handful and his tantrums have a tendency to result in combustion.

On the other hand, Bob’s wife, aka Elastigirl, is out saving the city from crime. While Bob changes nappies, she gets a cool new bike and is the face of the new, re-branded superhero. The stereotypical gender role reversal is refreshing to watch.

As with the original, the movie is filled with comedy and jokes aimed specifically at older viewers. There is plenty of ludicrous satire and parents will enjoy the relatability of Bob’s exhausted parenting and struggle realizing he is more “Mr Mediocre” these days than “Mr Incredible.” The scenes where he helps his son with his homework only to realize he has no clue what it is going on about is also a familiar moment. “It’s not my fault they changed maths!” he impatiently claims.

It is this relatability factor that makes us fall in love with the Parr family all over again. While Iron Man and Captain America take on a villain intent on wiping out half the universe, the Parr family face issues of insecurity and balancing family life with their duties. Nonetheless, the sequel does not poke digs at the transformation of the superhero genre since the original movie. Instead, it confidently succeeds in being a hearty superhero adventure which is fun for the entire family.

The villain “Screenslaver” is also a great addition. She is a rebellious figure who takes over airwaves and hypnotizes viewers into experiencing life second hand via their technological screens. If you were wondering what would happen if Charlie Brooker made superhero movies, we’re guessing it would look something like this.

Overall, as far as sequels go, Incredibles 2 is a huge success. It retained the charm of the first movie whilst also bringing us something new and refreshingly modern. We loved Avengers: Infinity War but  Incredibles 2 is a definite contender for superhero movie of the year.

It has been fourteen years since The Incredibles made it big on our screens and it looks like the sequel has moved forward in time in more ways than one.

From the trailer, we are getting the impression the movie will not focus on Mr Incredible’s immense strength and classic superhero image, but will instead focus on his wife, Elastagirl. While she goes off on her own private mission to protect the city from crime, Mr Incredible stays home to watch the kids.

The reversal of traditional gender role looks like it will not only make the movie current and follow in the Wonder Woman trend, but it also seems to be a fundamental source of humor in the film. The trailer cuts between Elastagirl jumping through the city on her mission and Mr Incredible struggling to cope with his teenage daughter’s mood swings and his youngest son’s spontaneous combustion.

As well as a twist on gender norms, the trailer also introduces a new villain. It looks as if the whole gang will need to get together to fight him, and we can’t wait to see how it will all go down. Luckily, we only have to wait two months until the movie is released on June 15th to find out.

Disney Pixar released the first trailer for the long-awaited The Incredibles 2. The trailer starts off where The Incredibles left off, where the superhero family faces off with ‘The Underminer’. The trailer cuts to a family dinner at the Parr residence featuring Bob Parr aka Mr. Incredible, Helen Parr aka Elastic Girl and their children- Violet, Dash and baby Jack- Jack.

Helen explains to her children that using their powers in public is not allowed because “superheroes are illegal.” However, Frozone explains to Bob and Helen that there still might be hope for superheroes. He tells both of them that a businessman wants to bring superheroes back “into the sunlight.” however, he only wants to bring back Elastic Girl. That means Bob will become a stay at home dad in the new film.

The film is written and directed by Brad Bird and stars Craig T. Nelson as Mr. Incredible, Holly Hunter as Elastic Girl, Sarah Vowell as Violet Parr and introducing Huck Milner as Dashiell ‘Dash’ Robert Parr.
