Colman Domingo is getting ready to direct a film about the romance between Kim Novak and Sammy Davis Jr., and he found a perfect duo to lead it. Sydney Sweeney and David Jonsson are getting ready to play lead roles in the period drama Scandalous, which will mark Domingo’s directorial debut.
Movie star Kim Novak and singer Sammy Davis Jr. met during their guest appearance on The Steve Allen Show in 1956, and a romance quickly blossomed between them. They faced a lot of bigoted scrutiny after their relationship came to light, and it’s even been rumored that Columbia Pictures chief Harry Cohn pulled his connections in the mob to put an end to it.
This period drama hails from Miramax, and they’re planning to fast-track it and kick off production after Sweeney and Domingo wrap up the third season of HBO’s Euphoria. Scandalous will mark the feature directorial debut for the Emmy-winning actor, who recently received his first Oscar nomination for the leading role in Rustin.
Sweeney is one of the biggest stars of her generation, who received two Emmy nods for Euphoria and The White Lotus, in addition to leading films Anyone but You, Reality, and Immaculate. Jonsson is the star of the HBO series Industry, who recently starred in the rom-com Rye Lane and the sci-fi epic Alien: Romulus.
