The Gotham Film Awards are one of the biggest celebrations of independent cinema in Hollywood, and they finally unveiled the list of nominations. Sean Baker’s Anora emerged as the top contender after winning the Palme d’Or earlier this year, and it’s leading the way with a total of four nods.

Anora received a lot of buzz with its Palme d’Or win at the Cannes Film Festival, and it turns out that was just the beginning. This film is now in the running for best feature at the Gotham Film Awards, alongside Halina Reijn’s Babygirl, Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers, Aaron Schimberg’s A Different Man, and RaMell Ross’s Nickel Boys.

Its leading lady Mikey Madison scored a nomination for outstanding lead performance, but taking this trophy home won’t be an easy task. This category is one star-studded affair and includes the likes of Pamela Anderson for The Last Showgirl, Adrien Brody for The Brutalist, Nicole Kidman for Babygirl, and Demi Moore for The Substance.

The 2024 Gotham Film Awards are coming back to the Cipriani Wall Street in New York on December 2. In addition to Anora with four nods, the list of main contenders also includes I Saw the TV Glow and Nickel Boys with three each.
