Steven Spielberg has said he believes the time is right for there to be a female Indiana Jones.

Spielberg has long been a supporter of women empowerment and is also a supporter of Time’s Up movement for gender equality.

Interestingly, he met his wife Kate Capshaw in 1984 when she starred in his second Indiana Jones film and the two went on to wed in 1991.

“We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan,” Spielberg said. “And there would be nothing wrong with that.” He acknowledged that some fans might be angry at the massive change in the iconic film star’s gender.

“I have been very lucky to be influenced by women, several of whom I have just loved madly — my mom and my wife,” he said.

Filming for the fifth Indiana Jones film will begin in April 2019 but no changes have yet to have been revealed.
