HBO Max has acquired the Seth Rogen-led comedy from Sony Pictures.

An American Pickle is heading to the streamer to avoid release delays due to the Coronavirus and its subsequent nationwide theater closures.

The adaptation of the New Yorker series titled Sell Out by Simon Rich will be directed by Brandon Trost from a script by Rich. Trost was the cinematographer on Rogen’s previous features including This Is the End, Neighbors, and The Interview.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be partnering with HBO Max to release this film,” Rogen said. “We worked very hard and put as much of ourselves in this story as possible. We’re very proud of the end result and we can’t wait for people to get to see it.”
