“Hellraiser” Series in Development at HBO

Doug Bradley in "Hellraiser" (1987)

HBO is officially developing a new horror series based on the iconic horror film franchise Hellraiser.

A new series based on the Hellraiser franchise is in the works at the premium cabler from writers Mark Verheiden and Michael Dougherty. The iconic horror film franchise was based on Clive Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart. It made its debut in 1987, spanning 10 films and 35 years.

According to sources with knowledge of the project, the series will not be a reboot of Hellraiser, but rather “an elevated continuation and expansion” of its mythology.

Halloween helmer, David Gordon Green, is attached to direct several episodes. Verheiden and Dougherty will also executive produce.
