The Trayvon Martin documentary series Jay-Z has been working on, Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story, will premier in July and now has a new trailer.
According to its description “The six-part non-scripted documentary series will be the definitive look at one of the most talked-about and controversial events in the last decade that spurred the impactful worldwide ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement.”
The case, which saw the 17-year-old Martin shot dead by George Zimmerman, was a much talked about case within the black lives matter movement. Despite Martin having been unarmed, Zimmerman was cleared off any wrongdoing and was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter, claiming that he acted in self-defense.
Jay Z made a surprise appearance at the peace walk in memory of Trayvon Martin on 9 February and serves as executive producer on the new series.
Jay Z praised Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, saying: “We want to make sure that we stand and support and never forget that Trayvon serves as a beacon of light to the people out here. So you guys will never have to go through the pain and hurt that these guys went through.
