“Punky Brewster” Reboot in the Works

Soleil Moon Frye and Sandy in "Punky Brewster"

Another ‘80s sitcom is making a comeback to the small screen.

The 1984 classic Punky Brewster is getting the sequel treatment thanks to Universal Content Productions. A network is not yet attached.

The original followed Punky, played by Soleil Moon Frye, a bright young girl raised by a foster dad. Frye is set to reprise her role, which launched her into stardom.

The sequel will follow Punky as a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track when she meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self.

Steve and Jim Armogida (School of Rock, Grounded for Life) are writing the sequel. Frye will also executive produce alongside original series creator David W. Duclon.

Punky Brewster joins other iconic sitcoms that made their return to the small screen including Boy Meets World, Full House, Will & Grace and Roseanne.
