Multiple outlets confirm that Patti LuPone will guest star on FX’s Pose

The news that the Broadway legend will join Season 2 was announced by co-creator Ryan Murphy Saturday at PaleyFest. Murphy also revealed two additional key details: Season 2 will see the show jump forward to 1990, specifically the day Madonna’s “Vogue” was released and that series lead MJ Rodriguez will share many scenes with LuPone.

“We’ve come up with this great role for Patti LuPone. She loves the show and we wrote this part and she said, ‘Yes, I want to do it,’ so she’s coming to play with us in a couple weeks,” Murphy said.

Season 2 is set to tackle the same issues as did Season 1, including transgender relationships, drag culture and the HIV/AIDS crisis of the late ’80s.

Producer, writer and director Janet Mock told The Hollywood Reporter that the new season will include “a lot of the same ingredients and the DNA of it all. Family, glamour, shadiness, bitchiness — but then a lot of heart, too.”

Co-creator Steven Canals added, “We’re going to be leaning into what was happening sociopolitically in New York,” he said, “and so we’re going to be addressing Act Up and access to medical care for individuals who are living with HIV.”

Pose is slated to return this year.
