Fans of USA Network’s cyber drama Mr. Robot received some bad news recently. According to Christian Slater, who stars as Mr. Robot and produces the show, the upcoming fourth season of the series might also be its last.

“[Show creator] Sam [Esmail] always said it was going to be somewhere in that zone, and he didn’t want to go further than what he could creatively contribute to that storyline,” Slater told Collider.

“So, I think that Season 4 will be it. I think they’re in the writers’ room, as we speak, putting it all together, but I have no idea what it’s gonna be, or if I’m gonna be floating in and out of scenes. I have no idea, so we’ll see what happens.”

After season three ended, Sam Esmail spoke about the future of Mr. Robot and said that he still isn’t sure whether the story of the show will fit into four or five seasons. Esmail also discussed the possibility of making two short seasons but didn’t exclude the possibility of filming two with the full ten-episode format.

Mr. Robot follows a young cyber security engineer and hacker, played by Rami Malek, who gets recruited by a group of activists looking to bring down the largest conglomerate in the world.

Besides Malek and Slater, the cast includes Carly Chaikin, Portia Doubleday, Martin Wallström, Michael Cristofer, and BD Wong.
