Inside Out 2 brought joy to many moviegoers around the world and set several box office records along the way. After just three weeks in theaters, Pixar’s latest hit crossed the $1 billion mark at the box office, becoming the fastest animated movie to do so.

Just like its predecessor, Inside Out 2 centers on a young girl named Riley, who must deal with complex feelings while going through important changes in her life. The sequel catches up with Riley during her teenage years and introduces us to a spectrum of new emotions that weren’t featured in the first film, such as Anxiety, Envy, and Embarrassment.

The voice cast of this sequel is as star-studded as it gets, and it includes returning cast members Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Diane Lane, and Kyle MacLachlan, plus newcomers Maya Hawke, Tony Hale, Ayo Edebiri, Lilimar, Adèle Exarchopoulos, and Paul Walter Hauser.

Inside Out 2 exceeded its box office projections from the get-go, scoring the highest worldwide debut in Pixar history with $294.2 million. Its earnings kept rising in the weeks to come and it made history as the first film to cross the $1 billion threshold in 2024, in addition to being the fastest animated movie to reach this mark.
