“G.I. Joe” Sequel in Development at Paramount

The G.I. Joe franchise is expanding. 

Paramount Pictures and Hasbro have teamed on a new and fourth movie in the G.I. Joe franchise. 

According to Variety, the new pic will be a follow-up to Paramount’s upcoming release Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins. Snake Eyes and Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding in the lead. The film, directed by Robert Schwentke opens October 23.

The studio is looking to tap writing duo Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse to pen the script. Transformers franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is returning to produce. 

The franchise based on the Hasbro action figure was launched in 2009, with the two first films in grossing a combined $678 million at the worldwide box office.
