Sony recently announced that the third installment in the original Ghostbusters film series is officially on the way, with the studio aiming at a 2020 release date.

While this got most fans excited about the opportunity to see the some of the original main cast members – Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson – reprise their roles in Ghostbusters 3, it turns out that this might not be the case.

In a recent radio interview, Hudson discussed the project and revealed that he doesn’t know whether he will be part of this new movie.

“I don’t know. Nobody has approached me with a contract,” said Hudson. “I think the Ghostbusters fans have been wanting (a passing of the torch) dynamic to happen, so I know whatever happens is going to be in that tradition… I’m excited about that. I’d be more excited if they called me and offered me a job, but no matter what happens the fact that they’re doing it is really cool.”

So far there hasn’t been much information available on Ghostbusters 3, but we know that the movie will continue the story from the original two films, 1984’s Ghostbusters and 1989’s Ghostbusters II. The original director Ivan Reitman will serve as an executive producer, while his son Jason Reitman will direct and serve as a writer alongside Gil Kenan.

Also, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the synopsis of the film will revolve around teenagers, two boys and two girls, who will become recruits for the Ghostbusters team.

While Dan Aykroyd and now Ernie Hudson confirmed that they were not approached about reprising their roles in the movie, we could soon expect updates regarding this. In one of the recent interviews, Ivan Reitman described the project as “passing the torch,” which opens the possibility of some original cast members making a cameo appearance at least.
