“The End of the F***ing World 2”: Everything You Need To Know

Jessica Barden and Alex Lawther in "The End of the F***ing World"

Netflix confirmed that It’s The End of the F***ing World has been renewed for a second season. Here is everything we know about Season 2 so far.

When can we expect it?

The first season aired on Channel 4 October 24, 2017 and then arrived on Netflix where it gained its popularity on January 5, 2018. They started shooting in April 2017 so production for the show was relatively quick.

No release date has been confirmed for Season 2 but now that a renewal has been confirmed, we can reasonably expect it at some point in 2019.

Who’s in it?

Alex Lawther who plays James and Jessica Barden aka Alyssa, have to come back because there is no show without them. We can assume that Jame’s father (Steve Oram) and Alyssa’s mother (Christine Bottomley ) and stepfather (Navin Chowdry) will return in the new season.

Given the way the first season ended, we can also safely assume that we will be seeing more of detectives Eunice Noon (Wunmi Mosaku) and Terri Donoghue (Wunmi Mosaku) as well as more authoritative characters.

What about the plot?

We have no idea what will happen in the new season and where it will take place. It could be that James is captured and send to prison and the story follows their relationship while he is incarcerated. We might also consider the possibility that there will be a time jump and the pair will reconnect after they have been separated by whatever fate the cops have in store for them.

One ending that Lawther has considered from the show is a little out of the box:

“Jess [Barden] used to talk about… there are some themes in series one where we’re on the beach, and everything’s coming to an end,” he said. “She was saying how she would like the second series to start with a musical on the beach — taking a role in a musical version of The End of the F***ing World, which I would be completely up for!

“I’m not sure how Charlie [Covell, series writer] will take that, but we’re going to push that idea as far as we can.”
