Julian McMahon’s decision to exit FBI: Most Wanted was quite a shocker for the show’s fans, but the masterminds behind it found a worthy successor. Dylan McDermott will take over the lead role and he’s expected to play a brand-new character.

This announcement comes shortly after news of McMahon’s departure made headlines. He released an official statement saying he’s leaving the show “in favor of additional creative pursuits” after ongoing conversations with the show’s producers about “a seamless and productive way” to leave the series.

“I would like to express the gratitude and admiration I have had working with Dick Wolf and Peter Jankowski. I’m extremely proud of the work we have done together and put the development of this show, and my character Jess, at the top of my professional experience list,” said McMahon in a statement.

McMahon played the role of Jess LaCroix, the head of FBI’s Most Wanted Unit for almost three seasons, and his final episode is set to air on March 8th. McDermott will take over as the lead in an undisclosed role in April, but he’s not expected to play LaCroix. He’s no stranger to series set in Dick Wolf universe, as he’s currently starring on Law & Order: Organized Crime.
