“Dark Phoenix” Director Admits His Regrets Over “X-Men: The Last Stand”

Famke Janssen in X-Men: The Last Stand

Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg has revealed the regrets he has about X-Men: The Last Stand.

In 2006, the X-Men universe introduced Jean Grey as the Phoenix (Famke Janssen). The movie may have made several mistakes when it comes to the notoriously wavy X-Men timeline, but this is not the thing that Kinberg regrets about the feature.

“I really felt that one of the mistakes we made with X-Men 3, which told in a way the Dark Phoenix story but it was the subplot of that film, one of the mistakes we made was that we didn’t go cosmic with it, like the comics,” Kinberg told Digital Spy.

“I think that was a time in superhero movies where that just wasn’t being done, and now we live in a time with Guardians of the GalaxyThor: Ragnarok and so many comic book movies are interstellar and cosmic that we felt like this was an opportunity to do our version of that.”

Hopefully, this means a more exciting and cosmic Dark Phoenix, which will be released June 6.
