Cannes Film Festival 2019 Lineup Revealed

August Diehl and Valerie Pachner in Terrence Malick's "A Hidden Life"

The lineup of the 72nd Cannes Film Festival was unveiled Thursday morning from the UGC Normandie theater on Paris’ Champs-Elysées.

Cinephiles rejoice for the majority of the highly anticipated lineup has been revealed and you can finally know who’s in, who’s out and what the fest chiefs think of Netflix.

According to multiple outlets, the official selection includes an impressive 13 female filmmakers out of the 47 films that were announced. Among the mix are expected names such as Pedro Almodóvar (Pain & Glory), Terrence Malick (A Hidden Life) and Ken Loach (Sorry We Missed You). Noticeably absent from the list is Quentin Tarantino’s anticipated Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which is still in editing. Fingers crossed that it’ll be completed in time for the festival. so we could be facing a major snub situation but that’s still unknown.

During the Thursday morning press conference, Cannes’ artistic director Thierry Frémaux and Cannes president Pierre Lescure confirmed that the festival will not to allow any Netflix films into competition.

The 2019 Cannes Film Festival runs May 14-25. Its opening film is The Dead Don’t Die (Jim Jarmusch).
