BAFTA TV Awards returned to London this Sunday to celebrate the best TV shows of the past year and it was another ceremony to remember. The black comedy Bad Sisters and the teen sitcom Derry Girls led the female-driven field of winners, snatching two awards each.

Bad Sisters made quite a splash when it premiered on Apple TV+ last year, and it’s finally getting credit where credit is due. In addition to being crowned the best drama series of the past year, its star Anne-Marie Duff won the award for the best supporting actress.

Channel 4’s hit drama Derry Girls went out with a bang on Sunday night, and its last season managed to pick up two awards: the best scripted comedy and best female comedy performance for Siobhán McSweeney, who won our hearts as the fan-favorite character Sister Michael.

It was also a big night for Kate Winslet, who picked up a trophy for best actress for I Am… Ruth. She was in pretty good company, with Ben Whishaw winning the best actor award for This Is Going to Hurt after beating such Hollywood heavyweights as Cillian Murphy and Gary Oldman.

The 2023 British Academy Television Awards took place on May 14 at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan hosting the ceremony.
