We’re hoping that by now, everybody knows not to leave the cinema when the credits appear on screen, but to wait for the well-worth-waiting-for post-credit scenes.

At the very end of the seemingly endless list of credits for Avengers: Infinity War, we got a sneaky suggestion about what will happen in the next movie come May. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, there are spoilers ahead.
The scene saw the return of Nicky Fury (Samuel L Jackson) and fellow S.H.I.E.L.D agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders). They are driving through the chaotic streets of New York in a hunt to track down the Avengers and gauge the severity of the aftermath of Thanos’s lethal attack on Earth.

The pair don’t stick around for long and Maria suddenly disintegrates into dust. Nick Fury panics but reacts quickly, using his pager to send a stress signal to an unknown source.

The logo on his pager is the symbol of Captain Marvel, who has not yet been introduced to the Marvel franchise. The superhero (Brie Larson) is due to appear in her own movie in February, prior to the release of the Infinity War sequel.

Captain Marvel possesses the powers of the Kree race. These powers include super-strength, flight, energy manipulation and a “precognitive seventh sense.” She is arguably more powerful than all of the remaining Avengers combined, but is she enough to take down Thanos and reverse the disintegration of half the universe? Only time will tell.
