“As we reach the end of the year, it is clear that it will not be possible to mount the film festival the way we envisioned it. This has not been an easy choice but we have made the decision to skip the 2021 edition. Rest assured that we plan to be back in 2022 when we can safely be together again in the theaters. Until then, we will continue our mission to share the very best in cinema through our Member and Community programs,” an email penned by board chair Harold Matzner reads.
2021 should have been the popular US film festival’s 32nd edition and was set for February 25-March 8.

]]>In case you missed it, the streaming giant has already dropped the sixth and final season Schitt’s Creek.
News that the series is available to streaming early was announced by series star and co-creator Dan Levy on Twitter.
“Surprise! Season 6 & the Best Wishes, Warmest Regards documentary just dropped early on Netflix! Have a great weekend!” he wrote. The show’s final season and documentary on its making were originally supposed to be released days later.
Schitt’s Creek had a huge night during the 2020 Emmys, winning the coveted Outstanding Comedy Series award. Its cast members also scored gold with Levy taking home the Outstanding Supporting Actor award.
During an interview after the awards ceremony, he said, “to be honest this is the best way we could have ever ended the show,” Levy said. “If there is an idea that pops into my head it has to be really freaking good because this is a nice way to say goodbye. Fingers crossed we get a nice idea popping into our head soon….I would love to work with these people again.”

]]>NBCUniversal has unveiled the first look at the Judd Apatow-directed comedy starring Pete Davidson. The semi-autobiographical comedy is based on Davidson’s own life, including the loss of his firefighter father on 9/11.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
“Scott (Davidson) has been a case of arrested development ever since his firefighter father died when he was seven. He’s now reached his mid-20s having achieved little, chasing a dream of becoming a tattoo artist that seems far out of reach. As his ambitious younger sister (Maude Apatow) heads off to college, Scott is still living with his exhausted ER nurse mother (Marisa Tomei) and spends his days smoking weed, hanging with the guys — Oscar (Ricky Velez), Igor (Moises Arias) and Richie (Lou Wilson) — and secretly hooking up with his childhood friend Kelsey (Bel Powley). But when his mother starts dating a loudmouth firefighter named Ray (Bill Burr), it sets off a chain of events that will force Scott to grapple with his grief and take his first tentative steps toward moving forward in life.”

]]>Fox confirmed the renewal during the network’s earning call with investors Wednesday.
In the bizarre singing competition, celebrities face off singing while clad from head to toe in an elaborate costume, which conceals their identity. The show hosted by Nick Cannon also features Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, and Robin Thicke.
“Our entertainment schedule in the fall looks incredibly stable thanks to a large amount of our programming already being filmed and edited. The only open question in our fall entertainment schedule is whether we get Masked Singer back into production in time for fall or midseason,” Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch said.
The season 3 finale of The Masked Singer is slated to air May 20.

The series delved into the cutthroat world of competitive high school cheerleading. While the girls’ friendship is put to the test, their young lives are changed forever when a shocking crime rocks their quiet suburban world.
Dare Me was based on the novel of the same name by Megan Abbott, who also served as writer and executive producer on the series.
Dare Me starred Willa Fitzgerald, Herizen Guardiola, Marlo Kelly, Rob Heaps, and Paul Fitzgerald.

]]>An American Pickle is heading to the streamer to avoid release delays due to the Coronavirus and its subsequent nationwide theater closures.
The adaptation of the New Yorker series titled Sell Out by Simon Rich will be directed by Brandon Trost from a script by Rich. Trost was the cinematographer on Rogen’s previous features including This Is the End, Neighbors, and The Interview.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be partnering with HBO Max to release this film,” Rogen said. “We worked very hard and put as much of ourselves in this story as possible. We’re very proud of the end result and we can’t wait for people to get to see it.”

]]>The latest release date delay is Disney’s Doctor Strange sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This is the second time the film’s been delayed and its November 5, 2021 date has now been updated to March 25, 2022.
In other Disney rescheduling news: Thor: Love and Thunder has been moved up to February 11, 2022.
Benedict Cumberbatch made his character debut in 2016 and then made subsequent appearances in Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, will reprise his role as the titular character. Benedict Wong Chiwetel Ejiofor and Elizabeth Olsen are all also expected to reprise their roles from the original film. Rachel McAdams, however, will not reprise her role.

]]>Variety confirms that Pine is in negotiations to star in the studio’s remake the film based on a 1920s book series of the same name by Leslie Charteris.
The reboot will be directed by Rocketman helmer Dexter Fletcher. Fletcher has other projects in development including the pic Renfield at Universal. But due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic shutting down almost all productions, it’s unknown when The Saint will actually happen or any other project for that matter.
The book series was previously made into a 1960s TV show starring Roger Moore, and a feature film in 1997 starring Val Kilmer.

]]>Ziegler will star in the teen drama from filmmaker Megan Park who will write and direct the feature. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Fallout centers on high schooler Vada (Ortega) who must navigate the emotional fallout she experiences in the wake of a school tragedy, after which relationships with her family, friends and view on the world are forever altered.
“Maddie is an exceptional talent, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring her onboard. She will bring so much to the production,” producer David Brown, from Clear Horizon, said in a statement.
