Pablo Larraín has given us several pretty amazing biopics in recent years, and he’s currently plotting another one. Angelina Jolie is set to play American-born Greek opera legend Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín’s upcoming biopic about the singer’s life.

The new biopic is set to reimagine Callas’ final days in 1970s Paris. Larraín said it’s a fascinating opportunity and a true gift to tell this tumultuous, beautiful, and tragic story alongside Jolie, especially since it allows him to combine his two deepest passions: cinema and opera.

Jolie, whose recent credits include Marvel’s Eternals and action thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead, is just as excited to celebrate Callas’ legacy through this project.

“I take very seriously the responsibility to Maria’s life and legacy. I will give all I can to meet the challenge. Pablo Larraín is a director I have long admired. To be allowed the chance to tell more of Maria’s story with him, and with a script by Steven Knight, is a dream,” said Jolie.

Pablo Larraín is no stranger to directing biopics that take a look back at some of the most tumultuous moments in the lives of important historical figures. His filmography also includes Spencer, starring Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana, and Jackie, with Natalie Portman portraying Jackie Kennedy.
